Damages
She Spat at Me (Sept. 4, 2007)
In this week’s episode of Damages, She Spat At Me, the plot has moved towards who controls Gregory Malina, Katie’s on-and-off again lover and one night stand on that dreaded night in Florida. We knew that he was a key part of this story but we’ve come to realize that he’s just a puppet in this whole affair between Patty and Frobisher.
And what about Forbisher? What a d*ck. One minute he’s this concerned family man and wants to preserve his legacy, the next minute he’s with a hooker in a deserted parking lot. In this episode, he wants to clear his name and let people get to know the real Aruther Forbisher. After hiring a book company to write an autobiography for him, he shows up at his ghostwriter’s apartment at 1 in the morning and insults his “immigrant” girlfriend. The writers have done a great job showing how the ultra-rich think they live on a different moral plane than the rest of us.
Then there’s Lila. Supposedly, her grandfather died and David, Ellen’s fiance, was helping her sell off the no longer needed medical equipment from his apartment on Craigslist. But, in this episode, we learn that her grandfather is alive and well, and she’s become the waiting stalker in the shadows as David and Ellen have an intimate bathtub moment. She means more to this story than just the girl wanting a doctor boyfriend. Is she connected to Frobisher? To Patty?
Frobisher’s lawyer, Ray Fisk, is having trouble sleeping. He keeps having nightmares about losing his teeth. He’s feeling very guilty about something. What does he know? Ooh, I can’t wait to find out.
Coming up next week, in We Are Not Animals, the Frobisher case hinges on Gregory Malina’s deposition. Patty has committed to keeping him safe from the nefarious forces of the opposition. Fearing that she’s manipulating them, Ellen and Tom keep something from Patty.
Eureka
Sight Unseen (Sept. 4, 2007)
A new love interest for Sheriff Jack Carter has emerged. Now that the romance between Carter and Allison has cooled off (weren’t they just married and expecting a baby … oh yeah, that was in a different reality), Callie - the friendly neighborhood drycleaner who used to be a scientist who worked on invisibility (really) - helps Jack to solve the problem of why things are disappearing. Brilliant. As I’ve said before, a fun show but hard to take seriously. Sometimes the science gets in the way of this character-driven drama but then it probably wouldn’t be Eureka without it.
Mad Men
Thursdays
Its 1960, in New York City. I’ve started to watch this drama thanks to iTunes and it looks to be a good commentary upon how our media saturated culture began in the middle of the twentieth century. Its not the main theme but its been evident to me. We’ll see if it holds up. At least it gives you a glimpse of what it was like for woman to live in that world and how pervasive cigarette advertisers were. The show unfolds around Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the biggest guy in the advertisement business. As he makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of those who want his job.
Psych
Tonight
Here’s the synopsis from the web site: Shawn and Gus are back with the first of two new episodes this Friday at 10/9C. In the premiere of “Rob-a-Bye Baby,” a burglary ring is hitting Santa Barbara, all in the middle of the day, leaving no trace of how they gained access. Shawn wants on the case, but Vick has an even more important job for Psych: she needs them to find her a new nanny. A task Shawn readily accepts as a way into the burglary case.
